What is a short link?
Learn how short links work and what to check before sharing or opening them.
Short links make sharing easier
A short link is a shorter URL used in place of a long or detailed original URL. It is useful for sharing in chats, emails, social media and printed materials.
How do short links work?
The system connects a short-link alias to a destination URL. When someone opens the short link, they are taken to that destination. Shortening does not store or change the original website's content.
What can you use them for?
- Make shared links easier to read and copy.
- Create QR codes for online or printed materials.
- Manage links and view click statistics according to your account permissions.
What to know about statistics
Clicks are not unique visitor counts. One person may open a link more than once. The system may filter bots, and information may take time to update.
Expiration and editing
A link without an expiration date has no scheduled end date, but may still be deleted or suspended. Destination editing and additional options depend on your account permissions and package.
Share and open links carefully
Link creators are responsible for their destinations and shared content. Test links before publishing and do not put confidential information in URLs. Recipients should check destinations before entering personal information. A short link or inspection result does not verify a website's trustworthiness.
